"Excuse me, how to get to road XX?" "Excuse me, where does this road lead to?"... These simple questions often echo in my ears. Maybe many people think asking for directions is an embarrassing thing, even I thought so. Every time I ask for directions, my face turns red, and my heart seems to be filled with thousands of little ants busy.
I once had an experience:
I was still young at that time and didn’t understand anything. I went out to play with my brother who was only five years older than me. People were coming and going on the street, and we were so happy to join in the fun! The sky is getting darker and the streets are much quieter. Everything seems very strange, as if we are in a place where we don't know each other. Could it be... Oops, we are lost! When I was in a hurry, my brother took me to ask for directions. This was also my first time asking for directions. But the first pedestrian yelled at us fiercely: "Where are you kid, go away!" We lowered our heads in grievance, but he glanced at us and walked away proudly without looking back, as if he had won a battle. When others saw this scene, not only did they not offer help, but they sneered from the sidelines. I hid behind my brother and couldn't help but shudder: Asking for directions - how scary!
This incident planted a seed in my little heart: I will never ask for directions in such an awkward manner again, no matter how difficult it is, I will go on by myself! I don't allow myself to be defeated by such cruel and indifferent eyes! Maybe it was because of my stubbornness that I became a "bad boy" who was not liked by teachers. I didn’t understand and didn’t ask, I just kept thinking.
Later I transferred to another school. I discovered a surprising phenomenon: all the students are good at "asking", there are always a lot of questions, and the teacher is very willing to solve them (even if some are off-topic questions). The relationship between teachers and students is particularly harmonious. Because of "asking", a strong learning atmosphere emerged in the whole class. But recalling the "tragic situation" in childhood, I really wonder, does "asking" also have two sides?
Then I read a story that made me understand everything:
In the scorching desert. The two thirsty and tired travelers took out the only kettle and shook it. One traveler said: "Oh, that's too bad, we only have half a jug of water left!" But another traveler said happily: "Really? We're so lucky, we still have half a jug of water!"
Looking back now, it is actually a beautiful thing to think about the "embarrassment" of my childhood from another perspective, because it made me deeply understand the feeling of being indifferent, and also let me appreciate the feeling of "returning to the right path" from the wrong path. In fact, many things in life are like half a bottle of water. If you change your perspective, you will have different moods and different answers: The key to asking for directions lies in how you look at it. It can be a positive attitude in life, or it can be a stumbling block.
So, I like to ask for directions, I like to challenge different roads, I like everything I do through my own efforts and the sincere help of others, I like to find a touch of warmth from people's indifferent and closed inner world, I remember Rodin once said: "Life is not a lack of beauty, but a lack of discovery", so I like to discover the hidden beauty deep in people's hearts.
The road is not given to people when they are born. The world’s road is nothing more than asking while walking!
